The CUGF support a number of staff and apprentices carrying out Gospel work on campus at UNE
Campus Staff Workers
Both Peter and Katharine Yock had their lives turned upside down by Jesus at University - Peter at Southern Cross Uni in Lismore, Katharine at Uni of New England in Armidale. They've been serving in AFES ministry for over 10 years, and have spent the last decade proclaiming Jesus at Universities in Brisbane. Now they've returned to Katharine's home turf, with an eagerness to see God do his good work in the lives of Uni students in Armidale. They walk alongside students, proclaiming Jesus, raising up disciples and leaders who will partner with God in his mission to the lost.
Peter and Katharine
Campus and International Ministry Worker
Fi is an Assistant Pastor at St Mark’s UNEchurch and has been on campus in Armidale since 2026. Fi is working alongside Peter and Katharine in reaching and discipling university students, with a particular focus on Women and International students. Fi grew up in Armidale before heading to Newcastle for university. Fi completed a ministry apprenticeship at Hunter Bible Church in 2021-22 before heading off to Bible College and returning to Armidale. Fi says: “I am convinced that Jesus Christ died and rose again for the forgiveness of sin. This message is too important and too good not to be told.”
Note: Fi’s role is part supported by general giving to the CUGF, part supported by St Mark’s UNEchurch, and additionally Fi is seeking to raise 2 days worth of support through the CUGF. If you’re giving specifically to support Fi’s target, please include “Fi Thomson” in your bank transfer description.

Ministry Apprenticeships Program Co-ordinator
Matt is the Senior Assistant Pastor at St Mark’s UNEchurch and has been on campus in Armidale since 2020. Matt has primary responsibility for the ministry apprenticeship program which in God’s kindness has grown over the years. This includes working closely with and training our MTS ministry trainees and their trainers, organising supporters nights and regular updates for CUGF members. Matt was saved through campus ministry and has a passion for seeing the next generation know and love Jesus. Matt’s journey into full-time ministry began with a ministry apprenticeship in 2015-16 at Hunter Bible Church in Newcastle, and has been a trainer of apprentices each year since arriving in Armidale. Matt also serves on the G8 conference committee. G8 is the MTS national conference for apprentices and trainers held at Stanwell Tops in January each year.

Elly
Second year ministry apprentice
Hello, my name is Elly and in 2025 I’m taking a break from speech pathology to begin an MTS apprenticeship. We all live as apprentices under Jesus, and for the next season I’ll be apprenticing with a church to learn how to help others live and grow in Jesus. So far this looks like meeting up with women to pray and read the bible, coordinating a Sunday morning kids program and supporting Christians United students as they reach out to their fellow students on the UNE campus with the gospel. It’s been a joy so far! My prayer for this apprenticeship is that I’ll come to know Jesus more deeply, and become equipped to help others know him too, wherever I end up afterwards.
Luke
Second year ministry apprentice
Hi, I'm Luke & I've just completed my 1st year of MTS!
The main areas of ministry that I'm involved in are campus ministry, with a side of men’s ministry & kids ministry. Week to week, this will involve catching up with people to read the Bible, running training for uni students, helping organise men’s events, and teaching kids in Sunday school. In my spare time, I love to play sports, especially cricket & volleyball. I also like bushwalking, wood chopping, & working on chainsaws. I'm really keen to get involved in full-time ministry – to get a taste of how it works & to see what God might have in store for the future.
Ariana
First year ministry apprentice
Hey, I’m Ari!
This year I am starting an MTS apprenticeship at St Mark’s UNEchurch. I love to serve in youth ministry and encouraging high schoolers to think more critically about their faith. I’ll be doing this through helping St Mark's Youth Group (SMYG) and shadowing a chaplain at a local school. My hope for this time is that I will gain a better understanding of how I can best serve in ministry and work out if this is something how I can pursue ministry further. Regardless of where I end up, my prayer is that I will come to know Jesus and His word more deeply and be equipped to help others do the same!
